FG Unveils Schedule for 2025 Democracy Day Celebrations, Sets Public Lecture for June 11

The Federal Government has released the official programme of events to commemorate the 2025 Democracy Day celebration, with a public lecture scheduled for Wednesday, June 11.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), in Abuja.
According to the statement, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, has inaugurated an Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC) to oversee preparations and ensure a memorable and befitting celebration of Nigeria’s 26th Democracy Day anniversary.

The SGF, represented at the inaugural meeting by Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, emphasised the significance of Democracy Day as a moment of reflection on Nigeria’s democratic journey and the sacrifices of those who fought for freedom from military rule.
“This year’s Democracy Day Celebration is an opportunity to reflect on the contributions and sacrifices of our founding fathers to attain independence for our dear nation and to retrospect on the daunting challenges and trauma that other democratic champions faced in their collective efforts to wrest power from the grip of military dictatorship. To celebrate this day in their remembrance is to honour and recognise their place in history,” Akume said.
