FIFA rankings: Nigeria now 3rd in Africa, 42nd in World

Nigeria’s senior football team, Super Eagles, have moved up to the 3rd best team in Africa, according to the latest FIFA Rankings.

Among other football teams in the world, they now rank as the 42nd. The list of the new rankings was released on Thursday by the world football governing body.

Predictably, Nigeria’s current position was earned after the team defeated Egypt and Seychelles during the Nation’s Cup qualifiers last two weeks.

Meanwhile, the Teranga Lions of Senegal, claimed the top spot in Africa, while Tunisia was placed in the second position. Morocco was ranked after Nigeria, and DR Congo completed the list of the best five Football nations in Africa.

For the world rankings, the only other African country that made top best 50, apart from the teams above, is the Ghana National Team.

The latest rankings also saw some promotions and demotions among other countries featured.

Although, the top three teams: Belgium, France, and Brazil, remained in the first, second, and third positions respectively.

England took over the fourth position from Croatia, pushing the world cup finalists to the fifth position. The two teams rounded off the top five best teams in the world.

Some other teams that either moved up or down are: Uruguay (6th Up), Germany (13th Up)), Netherlands (16th Down), and Chile (15th down).
