Final Nail In Ambode’s Coffin: Governor’s Second Term Bid Allegedly Dead

Any hopes of Akinwunmi Ambode coming back as the governor of Lagos state in 2019 have all but vanished after party elders decided to end it

There had been whispers for the longest time that Ambode was not in the good graces of APC chieftain Bola Tinubu and an array of party leaders.

There had been attempts to save him including a meeting between Tinubu and Oba Akiolu, but it seems nothing has worked and that come September 25th, the date for the APC primaries, there will be another ticket holder for APC in Lagos.

According to the Tribune, even the President and Vice President have given up on saving him.

“As things stand now, if he [Ambode] goes ahead for the primary, he will lose. And if he goes to another party to contest the coming election, his impeachment will be activated. That is the stage everything is now,” a source for the Tribune said.

The News Agency also reports that as an alternate plan, Ambode has been subjected to a number of hoops to jump through if there’s any hope of a redemption.

These include an undated resignation letter which is to be submitted to party elders who will have an insurance policy in case the Governor steps out of line.

Also, according to the Tribune, Ambode is to consult with Tinubu before any major decision in the state

“Who does this? Why are they trying to disrespect this man (Ambode)? Is the governor a good leader? I tell you, he isn’t. I have told you some of the things he did personally to me. But he should be allowed to complete his eight years so as not to set a bad precedent. At least, nobody has accused him of not delivering on projects. I agree he has not done well with party leaders and members. The governor himself is surprised I could be sympathetic to his cause.

“All I ask is that we don’t set a bad precedent because you don’t know who will be caught in it tomorrow. It is Akin (Ambode) today. It can be anybody tomorrow. How can you think of making a full-grown man a lame duck for four years? Isn’t that wickedness?” the Tribune’s source lamented.
