In yet another fire outbreak, property running into millions of naira have been destroyed in a fire incident that gutted a shopping plaza in Broad Street, Lagos on Tuesday.

The fire which gutted the building located at 112/114 Ultimate Plaza, Broad Street in the morning affected only the second floor.

According to the General Manager of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Michael Akindele, the fire was caused by a power surge in the second floor of the building which his men were able “to confine and restrict” to the floor, thereby preventing it from spreading to the other areas of the building.

Akindele, who confirmed that the fire claimed no lives, said many traders in the plaza were able to salvage some of their wares.

Furthermore, he urged Lagosians to buy only genuine appliances and switch them off when they are not in use to prevent fire outbreaks.

It will be recalled that a fire outbreak on September 9 in the Lawanson, Surulere area wiped out a family of six, just days after an inferno on September 4 left an undisclosed number of people dead and property worth millions destroyed in the popular Balogun market, also in Lagos.
