Fire razes vehicles as two tankers collide along Ibadan expressway

Two fuel-laden tankers caused a fatal fire accident along the Lagos- Ibadan Expressway on Wednesday, May 29, 2019, after they collided and spilled their content.

Almost immediately after the impact, their vehicles went up in flame and quickly spread to some other cars around the scene of the accident.

In the end, two SUVs – Mercedes Benz Formatic with number plate APP 245 PS, Toyota Forerunner, and one commercial bus –  Mazda bus with number plate YYY 83 YC, were burnt beyond repair.

According to a report by Punch, one of the drivers of the tankers involved was making an attempt to overtake the Commercial Mazda bus, however, his recklessness resulted in the collision.

Luckily, one individual got injured out of the 11 persons directly involved in the accident

While explaining how the incident went down, Ogun State’s commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC). Clement Oladele, accused the overspeeding tanker driver of being unprofessional and as being responsible for the accident.

He said, “The accident happened by the diversion at the Fidiwo end of the expressway and it was a head-on collision.

“The NNPC tanker was coming from Lagos and going towards Ibadan when the driver overtook the Mazda bus. He had not completely overtaken the bus when he collided with another tanker and went up in flames. There was no death; everybody was able to escape before we took them to the hospital.”
