A 25-year old fisherman, Rotimi Silewe, was on Friday remanded in Kirikiri Prisons, after he pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of four live cartridges without licence issued to him.

Following his guilty plea, the Magistrate, Mr A. A. Fashola ordered that the accused be kept behind bars pending his sentence.

The accused, who lives in Agobiri Community in Ondo State, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and unlawful possession of firearms.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sgt. Michael Unah, told the court that the accused committed the offences with seven others still at large on July 7 about 5.40 p.m. at Marindoti Street, Off Fatoki Egan, Igando in Lagos.

Unah said that the accused conspired with others and unlawfully had in his possession four life cartridges without licence issued to him by the Inspector General of Police or any other appropriate authorities.

The offence contravened Sections 51 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that both sections stipulate a two-year jail term for offenders.

The magistrate fixed Sept. 11 for his sentence. (NAN)
