Presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu, says there is nothing wrong with President Muhammadu Buhari not transmitting power to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo since he (Buhari) would only be away for a few days.

President Buhari on Tuesday jetted to London, the United Kingdom for a “routine medical check-up”.

The presidency said in a statement that he would return to Nigeria in the second week of April.

During an appearance on Channels Television, Shehu said that the position of the law on the matter was clear.

He added that the president would continue to work from wherever he is.

“The requirement of the law is that the President is going to be absent in the country for 21 days and more, then that transmission is warranted. In this particular instance, it is not warranted,” Shehu stated.

The presidential aide noted that the president was not sick in any way but only embarked on the London trip for medical check-up.

“The requirement of the law is that the President is going to be absent in the country for 21 days and more, then that transmission is warranted. In this particular instance, it is not warranted.”
