A southwestern chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Prince Buruji Kashamu has said that he had equally forgiven former President Olusegun Obasanjo. Kashamu capitalizing on an olive branch extended by OBJ to his former deputy, Atiku Abubakar made the remarks on an issue that may not have actually had anything to do with him.

Whilst Obasanjo on Sunday said he forgave Atiku and others who had offended him, his particular distaste for Mr. Kashamu is quite extraordinary. In a letter written to former PDP chairman Bamanga Tukur, Obasanjo said about Kashamu, “I cannot and I will not subscribe to a wanted habitual criminal being installed as my zonal leader in the party; a criminal for whom extradition has been requested by the US Government.”

Kashamu in his statement yesterday said Obasanjo had offended him but was forgiven.

“Baba Obasanjo’s offer is a welcome development that should be embraced not only by all those who offended him but also by those he (Obasanjo), had offended.

“Although, some doubting Thomases have said they are waiting to see him walk the talk, I strongly believe that this is one opportunity that we all must not allow to slip off our hands.

“It is in the light of the above that I hope to see a rapprochement in the days ahead between Chief Obasanjo and I on the one hand; and between him and the present administration on the other hand. On my part, I have embraced our Baba’s offer and will do all within my powers to keep the peace. I have equally forgiven him and others who might have offended me.”
