Former Liverpool player sacked after skipping a match to play in a poker tournament

Ex-Liverpool winger Albert Riera has been sacked by Italian club Udinese … after going AWOL to play poler.

The Spanish international spent two seasons at the Reds. He also had loan spells with Galatasray of Turkey.

But the Serie A club’s bosses found him to be excess after the player skipped their recent clash with Chievo to play in a poker tournament in Slovenia- where he won £3000 for finishing second-place.

The player also sent a stinging tweet claiming that Udinese was the worst team he had ever played for.

The Italian outfit have decided that Riera cannot hold them to ransom anymore and cancelled  his contract.
