Four missing, 18 rescued as boat capsizes in Delta

A boat accident in the Warri-South North Local Government Area of Delta has left four persons missing.

Confirming the incident, the police in Delta said the occupants on the boat comprised “three policemen and 15 natives,” adding that no official of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was involved in the accident.

According to a statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Chuks Oresewezie, 18 out of the 22 occupants have been rescued, with two of them currently receiving treatment at the Oghara General Hospital.

It was gathered that 12 persons, who are likely to be ad hoc staff of INEC had been feared missing after the boat conveying them to Koko was reported to have capsized Saturday evening.

The boat, which was carrying about 20 persons including corps members and security personnel, capsized around Ebrohimi community creek.

The Resident Electoral Commission, Dr. Cyril Omorogbe, also confirmed that ad hoc officials of the commission were not involved in the mishap.
