FUOYE Shuts down Institution over COVID-19 crisis

The management of Federal University of Oye Ekiti (FUOYE) has ordered the complete shutdown of the institution over fears of Coronavirus.

The shutdown which is a compliance of the directive of the federal government is an attempt to curtail the deadly Coronavirus which is airborne.

This was contained in a statement by FUOYE’s Acting Registrar, Mufutau A Ibrahim

The statement reads “In the light of the Federal Government’s directive and evolving reality of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) the University Management at its meeting held on Friday, 20th March, 2020 directed the closure of the university with effect from Monday, 23rd March, 2020”

It added: “The management also directed all students to vacate their Halls of Residence and the University’s premises immediately, while staff are to stay at home with effect from Monday, 23rd March ,2020 until further notice.

“You are all advised to abide by the precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the virus.”

Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife has also shutdown all activities to prevent the quick spread of the virus. Nigeria has confirmed 12 COVID-19 cases since the index case was reported February 27, 2020.
