The Governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has terminated the appointment of the Commissioner of Works and Infrastructure, Engr Mu’azu Magaji, for allegedly celebrating the death of Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari.

Kyari died on Friday following coronavirus-related complications and was buried according to Islamic rites in Abuja on Saturday.

His demise has attracted many comments, with many focusing on his place in the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Taking to Facebook, Magaji also weighed in on the conversation, posting several comments deemed uncharitable by his principal.

Taking to his Twitter handle, Personal Assistant on New Media to the President, Bashir Ahmad had expressed shock at the commissioner’s comments.

Ahmad called on the governor to discipline Magaji.

He wrote, “I am really disappointed and pained by the Kano State Commissioner for Works, Engr. Muazu Magaji’s remarks on Mallam Abba Kyari’s demise, the commissioner was seen publicly celebrating the death on his Facebook page. I hope @KanoStateNG and @GovUmarGanduje will call him to order.

“It can be easily overlooked when some minor misguided people celebrate Malam Abba Kyari or anyone’s death, but when it’s a member of Kano Executive Council, a commissioner it would be hard to do the same, Engr Magaji’s action was irresponsible, for God’s sake he is a stakeholder.”

The presidential aide later took to Twitter to share news of Magaji’s dismissal.

He wrote, “JUST IN: @GovUmarGanduje of Kano State has relieved the appointment of the Commissioner of Works and Infrastructure, Engr Mu’azu Magaji, he was removed following his unguarded utterances against the person of late Abba Kyari, a statement from the State Information Commissioner.”
