Gas explosion rocks Kaduna, many feared killed

Many residents of Sabon Tasha, Chikun Local Government area of Kaduna State scampered for safety Saturday afternoon after a gas explosion rocked the community.

At least five persons are believed to have died following the explosion at a roadside gas vending shop located by the main road opposite Total Filling station at 1:00pm.

The Herald gathered that the sudden bang from the explosion left many residents running in different directions. Many of the residents were said to have taken to their heels thinking it was a bomb blast.

It was further gathered that the building housing the gas shop was reportedly razed to the ground.

“I was in front of the filling station opposite the gas shop when the explosion happened.

“I just left my house, on my way to see a friend. So, I was waiting for commercial vehicle, I just heard boom! I fell down, but I managed to get up.

“Some people got injured while they were scampering for safety and I saw five people dead,” The Nation quoted a witness, Emmanuel Sunday, as saying.

The state police command has yet to confirm the incident.
