Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) has revealed plans of placing a ban on Made-In-Nigeria goods, to show their disapproval following Nigeria’s Land Border Closure since August 2019.
According to GUTA, this would make the Nigerian Government reconsider their decision towards closing the land borders.
GhanaWeb disclosed that David Kwadwo Amoateng, the Regional Secretary of GUTA urged Ghana Government to boycott all Made-in-Nigeria goods since the Government of Nigeria has decided to ill-treat their foreign traders. Not all the members of the group agree with his suggestion, hence Amoateng insinuated someone’s palm was being oiled implying a bribery of some sort.
““Either somebody’s bread has been buttered or we are cowards. Government is not being fair to us,”
Let’s boycott Nigerian products as payback for their government’s action. How can we be slaves in our own country?” he said
Kwado also lamented how Dangote cement has taken over Ghana market at the expense of the country’s locally produced cement.
Amoateng claimed that Nigeria’s Border Closure could have a negative effect on the Continental Free Trade Area.

However, Shirley Botchwey of Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has paid several visits to the Nigerian High Commissioner in Ghana in a bid to find solution for Foreign Traders
