Golden Eaglets Thump Akwa Ibom Selected 6-1

The Golden Eaglets preserved their unbeaten run by trouncing Akwa Ibom State selected side 6-1 at the Uyo Township Stadium on Sunday.

Coach Manu Garba said it was great the Eaglets rounded off their year on a resounding note, adding that the team would go on break to resume early next year ahead of the African U17 Championship to be hosted in Morocco.

The Eaglets have been drawn in a tough first round group that has Congo Brazzaville, Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire.

The game, which was in celebration of the Golden Jubilee of Akwa Governor Godswill Akpabio, kicked off at 7:45 pm and was played under floodlight in front of a big crowd.

The home team, known as Umuna-Umuna Babes, took the lead very early with a well-struck free kick by captain Sylvanus Nsikak that beat goalkeeper Adewale Adeyinka hollow.

The Eaglets fought back gamely and were rewarded with three goals through Bernard Bulbwa, Kelechi Iheanacho and Isaac Success before the end of the abridged 30-minute game.

The Eaglets were on a cruise control in the second half with Success and Bulbwa scoring their second goal of the night.

Chidera Eze, who came in as a late substitute for injured Iheanacho, sealed the victory to the delight of the fans
