Governor sacks Zamfara emir, district head for supporting bandits

Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara state has dethroned Abubakar Cika, the emir of Maru over his connivance with bandits.

Mahdi Gusau, the deputy governor, who announced this in a statement, added that Lawal Ahmad, district head of Kanoma under Maru emirate council has also been removed.

The governor had about two months ago suspended the duo following complaints on their alleged involvement in banditry and cattle rustling.

He had said he would set up a committee to investigate the allegations, which eventually recommended their removal.

During one of Matawalle’s visits to the community over incessant bandit attacks, the residents had also called for the removal of the two traditional rulers.
