Governor Shettima Donates Foodstuffs To Town Ravaged By Insurgency

As normalcy returns to Borno State, Governor Kashim Shettima has distributed food stuffs to residents of Uba town in Askira-Uba Local Government where he passed the night on Tuesday as people start returning to the town once held by Boko Haram.

The Governor distributed over 1500 bags of rice, 1500 bags of beans, 1000 cartoons of spaghettis, sugar and salt among other food stuffs.

Governor Shettima who had earlier relocated his office to Bama left on Tuesday to Uba town to give the people of the town succor and sense of belonging.

“I want to sympathize with you over the unfortunate calamities perpetrated by book haram in recent past, we are here to tell you that as government, we will do everything possible to rebuild all your destroyed houses brick by brick.

“We have also come with assorted food items including 1500 bags of 25kg rice, 1500 bags of beans, 1000 cartons of spaghetti, Sugar, salt among other relief items.”

The Governor who was welcome by the Emir’s of Askira-Uba in his palace inspected the level of destruction done to the town by the Boko Haram insurgence and deliberated with the local community on vigilance.

He also visited other local government to access the level of destruction done and to supervise the construction works going on. He visited major towns affected by insurgency in the state such as Lassa and Pulka where he interacted with the IDPs in Gwoza local government.

The Governor directed the commissioner of works to quickly fix the towns affected by the insurgency so that the IDPs call settle down in their villages fast.

“I urge some of the IDPs from Gwoza who are still residing in resettlement camps in Maiduguri and other places to please come back and join you, because, there is no any good place than home.

“I want to thank the federal government and the Chief of Army staff as well as the entire officers and men under the ‘Operation Lafiya Dole’ in the north east for their gallantry effort in degrading remnants of Boko Haram.

“My appeal to you all is to please give maximum support and cooperation to the military and the civilian JTF who are here with you to give you adequate security,” he concluded.
