Senator Shehu Sani has blamed the Federal Government for continued clashes between the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) and the police.

Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations in the FCT, Usman Umar, a young Channels Television reporter, Precious Owolabi, and an unconfirmed number of IMN members, popularly called Shiites, died in the latest clashes in Abuja on Monday.

The Shiites are protesting to demand the release of their detained leader, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.

Taking to his Twitter handle on Tuesday, Sani berated the Federal Government for continued detention of El-Zakzaky in spite of court orders.

Sani, who represented Kaduna Central in the 8th Senate, wrote: “A spade is called a spade and not a spoon. The government is the causative agent of the needless crisis and clashes with the Islamic Movement.

“The detention of their leader and the persecution of their members and the disrespect for court orders is the real threat to peace and not the reverse.”
