Grammys: Burna Boy, Wizkid’s win victory for Nigerian culture – Davido

Music star, Davido has hailed the wins recorded by two contemporaries – Burna Boy and Wizkid – at the 63rd Grammys held last night.

Taking to Twitter early Monday, hours after the duo were announced as winners, Davido described their wins as a victory for Nigerian culture.

Recall that Burna Boy won in the ‘Best Global Music Album’ category for Twice as Tall.

Burna Boy’s 2020 project won ahead of Antibalas’ The Fu Chronicles, Bebel Gilberto’s Agora, Anoushka Shankar’s Love Letters and Tinariwen’s Amadjar.

His African Giant album lost in the same category at the 2020 Grammys to Angelique Kidjo’s Celia.

Wizkid’s win came in the ‘Best Music Video category for his contributions on Brown Skin Girl by Beyonce, Blue Ivy and Saint Jhn.

Many Nigerians had taken to social media to congratulate Burna Boy and Wizkid on the awards.

Weighing in, Davido wrote, “Whichever way you look at it, this is a victory for Nigeria for the culture and for my people! Congrats to our winners! Tule Naija! #Grammys #foreverchoke”
