Great News!! Women could evolve out of menopause

2 Min Read

In what would be great news for womenfolk, British scientist and writer Aarathi Prasad is predicting that women could evolve out of menopause so that they could have children at a later age.

This is because that there is increasingly no need for menopause, which only acts  as a way of preventing older and younger children from competing, as improved medications for an ageing population now serve the same purpose.

Prasad, a biologist, who made this statement at the Telegraph Hay Festival which is currently taking place at Hay-on-Wye, outside London also said that no other animal went through the process whereby the female stopped ovulating, making her in turn infertile.

She added that the process was abnormal, of no benefit and women would not have to go through it, and that menopause is something that could be ‘overcome’ as humans evolve.

She explained that scientists are investigating early menopause and looking for a specific gene that causes the condition.

This could eventually lead to gene therapy for all women.

She said: ‘The mood of scientists working on this and looking into the future is we will either technologically or scientifically evolve out of the menopause.

‘It is a health risk and it is a real and inescapable block on reproduction for one half of us – the women, but not the men.’

The researcher in cancer genetics at Imperial College London argued that ovarian failure should be treated like any other organ failure.

She pointed out that women were at an increased risk of certain conditions such as osteoporosis and breast cancer after the menopause.
