Tragedy struck in Vietnam after 14 members of a family including the groom, died on the day of the wedding.

The family was travelling in a mini-bus and were on their way to the bride’s family’s house in the early hours of the morning when their van was involved in a head-on collision with a container truck in the Quang Nam province of Vietnam.

Eleven people including the groom died on the spot and the other 3 later died in the hospital.

There were survivors who are in critical condition including two children

The wedding they were heading to was to take place in Binh Dinh city and it was a 280-mile drive being embarked upon by the family.

“All victims’ bodies were brought back to their home for burial. We are treating some of the injured in a local hospital,” police said

The driver of the truck survived with injuries and the police have launched an investigation into the matter of the deaths.

Vietnam is fraught with road accidents and is the biggest single cause of deaths.

This is due mostly to people hardly following traffic laws and road infrastructure is patchy, despite efforts to make the roads safer.

The WHO claims that about 14,000 lives are lost in road accidents in Vietnam every year.
