Mrs Emem Opashi, Chief Executive Officer, Annual School Needs Exhibition (ASNE), an educational group has called on the management of schools in the country to apply innovative teaching to enhance the quality of education.

Opashi made the call at a news conference on the 2017 ASNE Educational Fair with the theme: “Celebrating Creativity in Enterprise’’.

According to her, the conference is in furtherance of achieving innovative teaching, especially in the area of technology to promote science and technology.

She further said the conference would feature many education service providers on software, school uniforms, career profiling and special education support.

“It is a conference aimed at finding creative ways to improve the educational system in Nigeria.

‘’It is also an avenue to learn and project the quality of education and to know where we want to be in the next few years, through innovation.

“We will try to see a way to connect business with education and also meet the need of the educational system in the country, ‘’she said.

Opashi noted that the involvement of the group had effectively improved on quality of education, especially in the northern part of the country.

She said the group was partnering with stakeholders to address the overwhelming challenges of the education sector to find lasting solutions to address them.

Opashi said Zamfara, Katsina, Kaduna, Kano and Jigawa were among the states that had benefited from the programmes of the group.

According to the convener, the 7th Annual exhibition of the group has been slated for Abuja between May 17 and 18.

She further said education stakeholders will grace the occasion where they would be enlightened on the need to ensure innovative teaching.

Mr Obi Brown, Chief Executive Officer, Insight Africa and a co-convener of ASNE called for innovation in curriculum and technological application of learning to improve the quality of education.
Brown also called on stakeholders to contribute their quota toward improving the educational system of the country.

“ASNE tries to go to the grassroots to better their education. The government cannot do it all; private sector should look inward to help the government.

“Teachers are the real facilitators of education because they require a broad base knowledge and we can only assist through technology.

“Learning should not be limited to classroom alone, there should be interdisciplinary nature of learning and of course, a paradigm shift to achieve this,’’ he said.

He also said the group had helped parents and schools to develop the capacity of students toward high performance in mathematics and sciences as well as enhance their problem-solving skills.

Also, Mr Bolaji Ajabiowe, Infrastructure and Support Engineer, Flexisaf Edusoft Limited, Abuja, called for total reorientation of the teaching skills of students to boost their mental development.
“We still do everything manually, we have the mindset that has lasted for decades and this must stop.

“Our teaching was done in an archaic way, but with this programme, schools will be given the opportunity to learn the trends on how to innovate teaching,’’.. (NAN)
