The Human Rights Association of Nigeria (HURIWA), a non-governmental rights group, has threatened to report controversial Catholic priest, Reverend Father Ejike Mbaka to directly to The Vatican if he is not called to order over his New Year prophecy that said some corrupt politicians in Nigeria would attempt to assassinate President Muhammadu Buhari.
In a statement jointly signed by its National Coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko and National Media Officer, Zainab Yusuf, HURIWA urged the Catholic Bishop Conference of Nigeria to called Fr Mbaka to order within 21 days or it would have no choice than to report the cleric to the Catholic leadership at The Vatican for dabbling into the murky waters of politics.
According to the statement, the leader of the Enugu-based Adoration Ministry was denigrating his office as a priest by openly identifying with politicians both regionally and nationally.
The group also accused him of sensationalism in his so-called prophecy, which it called a “cock-and-bull story” and the product of “delusional hibernation”.
The statement read in part: “Fr Mbaka is putting his priestly calling and office to the pecuniary services of the All Progressives Congress of President Buhari because it is barely two weeks he was photographed smiling with his Political host in the Presidential mansion President Muhammadu Buhari that he emerged from his delusional hibernation to manufacture cock-and -bull story about some plots to assassinate Mr President by corrupt politicians.”
Dismissing the prophesy as delusional and empty, the Rights group added: “Is Fr Mbaka a judge who has passed presiding over cases of alleged graft involving any immediate past political office holder and adjudged them guilty of corrupt practices? Is Fr Mbaka unaware that as the Commander-In-Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces that President Muhammadu Buhari is the most protected citizen in Nigeria now with hundreds of well armed and highly trained professional guards drawn from the Nigerian Military and the Secret Police headed by President Muhammadu Buhari’s Kinsman? Is Fr Mbaka unaware that Nigeria under President Muhammadu Buhari is waging a counter terror war and that the armed Islamists have vowed in several media recordings to kill not just the Commander in chief but officials of government? This MBAKA’S whitewash must be consigned to the dustbins without further delay.”
Recall that Fr Mbaka had in a well-publicised New Year message had alleged that some corrupt politicians who were against President Buhari’s nti-corruption campaign would make an attempt on the president’s life.
The cleric was well-known for his run-in with the past administration of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan and even predicted the ex-president’s ouster from office which came to past at the April 2015 presidential election.
