Unknown gunmen have abducted Aminu Musa Abdullahi alias ‘Yaya Baba’, a nephew of former Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II.

The victim was reportedly abducted while heading to Kano along Abuja-Kaduna highway last week.

Daily Trust reported, quoting a source close to the victim’s family, that the assailants have contacted the former Emir’s family to demand a ransom.

However, the exact amount demanded for Yaya Baba’s release was not disclosed.

The source was further quoted to have said that the family has arranged the ransom but lost contact with the abductors.

“The family has sourced the requested amount and when the person assigned to deliver the money to the kidnappers set out to meet them, he lost contact with them completely. Till this moment, they have not communicated to the family,” the source said.

The Kano State Police Command has yet to confirm Yaya Baba’s abduction.

This is just as drivers plying the Abuja-Kaduna highway lamented the heightened activities of kidnappers along the route.

According to the drivers, the kidnappers mostly operate between 5am and 7am and 7pm and 9pm.

They called on the security agencies to step up efforts to clear the route of the menace of kidnapping and other criminal activities.
