Gunmen kidnap Edo deputy gov’s brother

Unidentified gunmen have kidnapped Mr Frederick Shaibu, the younger brother of Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu.

It was learnt that the victim was kidnapped on Monday as he was taking his children to school in Irhiri, Benin.

The incident reportedly happened in Aruogba area of Irhiri around 7:00am as he drove the children to school in his car.

The attackers were said to have whisked Shaibu away while leaving the children beside the road.

The family is said to be apprehensive as his abductors have yet to make contact with them.

However, a family source said that the incident has been reported to security agencies.

“It is believed that the kidnappers came through the Ogba River because people who witnessed the incident said they went through the bushes that lead to the riverside.

“Security agencies have been informed and they are doing everything possible to ensure that he is released unhurt and reunited with his family,” the family source said.

However, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Edo State Police Command, Chidi Nwabuzor said he was yet to be briefed about the incident.
