Hair stylist pleads guilty to stealing, risks 7 years in jail

A 22-year-old hair stylist, Osoria Isime, on Friday at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court pleaded guilty to stealing a bag at a restaurant.

Following his guilty plea, the Magistrate, Mr A. A. Fashola, ordered that Isime should be kept behind bars pending his sentence.

The accused, whose residential address was not provided, is facing a charge of stealing.

Earlier, the prosecution alleged that the accused stole a bag at a restaurant, containing a Tecno phone valued at N25,000 and drugs worth N1,250.

Other items stolen are body cream valued at N700, toothbrush worth N500, handbag valued at N2,000 and N1,000 cash, totalling N30,450, property of the complainant, Mrs Nofisat Yusuf.

Police Sgt. Michael Unah told the court that the accused committed the offence on June 27 about 6.30 a. m. at No. 3, Abiodun Shoneye Close, Ojodu, Lagos.

“The accused entered into a restaurant and stole the bag.

“The complainant apprehended and took him to the nearest police station,” Unah said.

The offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the section stipulates a seven-year jail term for offenders.

The magistrate fixed July 9 for his sentence. (NAN)
