Farooq Kperogi, US-based Associate Professor of Journalism has disclosed that Aisha Buhari, the first lady of Nigeria will be the first victim of hate speech bill if passed into law as he accused her of leaking Buhari’s alleged wedding to Sadiya Farouq to the Press in order to stop it.

Senator Musa said the hate speech bill was mainly to punish disseminators of fake news especially those who said President Buhari was getting married to Sadiya Umar Farouq, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management.

Farooq said Aisha confirmed there was some truth in the rumour going by the interview she granted BBC Hausa.

In Aisha’s words; “Wacce aka ace Buhari Zai aura ba ta Yi Zaton ba za a Yi auren ba,” she told BBC Hausa. Farooq translated this in English as: “The very woman Buhari was supposed to marry didn’t expect that the wedding would not happen.”

“In other words, according to Aisha, the wedding rumour had a basis in truth and Sadiya, in fact, was prepared for the wedding until it was called off because of the unexpectedly unusual social media attention it generated.” Farooq wrote on his website.

The Assistant Professor also disclosed Aisha and her social media handlers were responsible for leaking the news to the Press in order to stop the alleged wedding and they succeeded.

In Farooq Kperogi’s words “People close to Aisha told me it was actually Aisha and her social media handlers who instigated the social media hype over the wedding in order to embarrass Mamman Daura and ultimately thwart the wedding. And they succeeded. I hope Senator Musa will come for her when he succeeds with his fascistic social media bill.”
