Health Hazard: 27 Dead Cows Smuggled Into Rivers State From Northern Nigeria

Rivers state was thrown into a state of panic after it was revealed that 27 dead cows and over 50 cows in total were smuggled into the state.

The police were able to arrest the culprits who were said to be Northern youths.

The dead cows were driven across state lines in a truck with registration number (RGM 104 XA), through Adamawa, Okigwe routes to Igwuruta in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The police were called by Hon. Engr Samuel Nwanosike JP, who acts as the Executive chairman, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, who called for immediate action and an investigation.

There were also health worries with the dead cows, therefore, Dr. Ekanam, Director Primary Health Care and Dr. Joy Wohioka, who is in charge of Health Care, Ikwerre Local government area were called ton also investigate the matter and look into the health issues that this breach could have led to.

According to Trezzyhelm, indigenes of the local government were thrown into a state of fear over the development and many of them worried not only about the health repercussions, but also the political ones that came with the transportation of the dead cows.

The worry for residents of the area is that this incident would be swept under the rug and will not have the requisite attention that such a thing should be given.

Worse still was the fact that it was revealed that up to four of the dead cows had already been sold for public consumption in the state.
