Herdsmen: Senator Adeola vows to join kinsmen in self-defence if killings don’t stop
The Senator for Lagos West, Senator Olamilekan Adeola aka Yayi says the security agencies must bring an immediate end to the killing of his kinsmen in Yewa land of Ogun State.
Senator Adeola said he would not hesitate to join his kinsmen to fight back their attackers in self-defence if the attacks were not checked.
He stated this while faulting the Federal and Ogun state governments inability to end the killings recorded in many communities in Yewa land.
He spoke in the wake of recent attacks on Yewa North, Imeko, Afon, Ipokia and Yewa South local government councis.
In a statement over the weekend, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance said, “Let it be stated that as a representative of the people sworn to uphold the constitution and the laws of the land including the right to self defence, I will not hesitate to join my people in the defence of their rights to life, property and peaceful coexistence with others at the back of seeming failure of duly constituted authorities to defend such fundamental rights against anyone or forces.”
Senator Adeola’s statement aligned with the position of Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle.
The monarch had warned that the people could resort to self-help if President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Dapo Abiodun did not find an immediate solution to the killings.
