A pastor, Mathew Tagwai, 34, and Ishaku Abba, 10, and two others have been confirmed killed by unknown gunmen who attacked Ngbra Zongo community in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday night.

Until his death, Tagwai was a pastor serving with the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA).

Others killed in the attack include Dih Sunday, 21, and Duh Abba, 38.

A resident who confirmed the names of the victims, Chayi Biri said he escaped being killed by the whiskers.

“The gunmen were dressed in black. I saw six of them. They came close to my room but God helped me to escape narrowly. But they killed four in the community, including a pastor during the attack which lasted for about an hour.

“Thereafter, they followed the back of our house and escaped towards Dusen Kaura village,” Biri said.

The attack was said to be the second attack on the community in two weeks, with residents accusing security operatives of failing to arrest the culprits who were described as “Fulani herdsmen”.

The Herald recalled that state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Isaac Akinmoyede visited Bassa LGA following the killing of seven residents in one of the communities by gunmen last week.
