Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp has praised Mohamed Salah for his selflessness after the Egyptian allowed Roberto Firminho to take a penalty to allow the Brazilian complete a hat trick against Arsenal.

The Reds were in ultimate mode as they thrashed Arsenal 5-1 to stay at the top of the table and condemn the Gunners to their 4th defeat of the season under Unai Emery.

Klopp was full of praise for his charges and he said he almost cried at Salah’s gesture. The Egyptian is the designated penalty taker for Liverpool, but with 2 goals in the game, Firminho was on course for a hat trick and when another penalty was given, after a foul from Kolasinac, the top Liverpool goalscorer allowed his teammate to take the kick.

Speaking after the game, Klopp said: “We knew in the second half that the game wasn’t finished, so we wanted to control it.

“The response [to going behind] was world class,” Klopp said. “We stayed calm and really forced the mistakes.

“Firmino’s second when Sadio [Mane] won the ball – wow. It was perfect defending.”
