HTC One Unveiled: Busts The Megapixel Myth With Ultrapixels

The HTC One is easily one of the most important devices HTC has ever released as it tries to regain its profitable positions and return it to positive dynamics, and now the One handset to help it achieve those goals has finally become official.

The phone uses Google’s latest operating system, Android Jelly Bean, and features a 4.7in (12cm) 1080p high display.

The makers hope that the new software features will help to make it standout.

One of them is BlinkFeed, a personalised content feed on the home screen, that – according to HTC – “aggregates the freshest content from the most relevant sources as identified by you, providing instant access to news and social feeds without the need to jump between multiple applications and web sites”.

Another feature, called HTC Zoe, captures short high definition videos instead of still images before and after the camera shutter is pressed, so that users can chose the best picture to capture the moment. The software can also turn a gallery of still images into a collection of mini-videos.

HTC also boasts that its “ultrapixel” camera and software produce the best low-light shots available on any smartphone camera.

“The era of the megapixel is over,” HTC said on stage during its One announcement on Tuesday. “We developed our own custom technology called the UltraPixel camera. It captures 300 percent more light,” which allows users to capture “ghostless” HDR, HDR video and capture amazing photos in low light conditions.

According to Mike Woodward, President of HTC America, the phone is made entirely of aluminum. He said it took two years to make a good all-metal phone.

It also has a large 4.7-inch, 1080p screen, which is flanked vertically by two speaker strips.

The phone is fast too, thanks to its quad-core Snapdragon 600 processor and 2GB of RAM.
