An unidentified man has died during a routine shopping run at a market in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta.

After buying tomato and pepper at the popular Igbudu Market, the man was said to be proceeding to the fresh fish section of the market when he suddenly slumped and died, sending the market into pandemonium.

The incident reportedly occurred at 9:00 am on Tuesday.

“The man was at the market to purchase foodstuffs and after buying tomatoes and pepper, he wanted to buy fresh fish. Somebody directed him to where fresh fish was being sold.

“On his way to where he would get the fresh fish, he slumped and died.

“The man might have died as a result of hunger. He was moving like someone who had not eaten for days,” a witness said.

Confirming the development, Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Onome Onovwakpoyeya said that details of the incident were still sketchy.

“It is true, but we don’t know what happened; we are not doctors. The man just slumped and died,” the police spokesman said.

According to him, the command has begun investigation into the matter.
