Hunters, herdsmen clash in Nasarawa

Hunters and herdsmen have engaged in a violent clash in the Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, leading to a yet-to-be-ascertained figure of injured persons.

The Nigerian Army, which confirmed this in a statement on Sunday, noted that the troops participating in the ongoing Operation Ayem Akpatuma also arrested one herdsman in Chegba village in the Logo Local Government Area of Benue State with a bullet-proof vest and a cutlass.

Herald learnt that the clash in the Obi area of Nasarawa State on Friday would have claimed lives but for the intervention of the troops deployed in the community.

The number of arrests made and the weapons recovered had yet to be ascertained.

It was gathered that the herdsman arrested in Benue with a bulletproof vest had been handed over to the police for further action.

The Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Aliyu Yusuf, who confirmed the arrest in a statement, noted that the “residents in the states where the Operation Ayem Akpatuma is holding, must continue to supply credible information to troops.”

Yusuf added, “The troops acting on a distress call intervened in a violent clash between the hunters and herdsmen in the Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

“Similarly, troops on patrol on Friday deployed in Ayilamo village in the Logo Local Government Area of Benue State while on patrol at Chegba village arrested a herdsman with a locally-made bulletproof vest and a cutlass.  The herdsman has been handed over to the police for further action.
