A 25-year old man has allegedly killed another man who he accused of having an affair with his wife.
The suspect, Ajibade Olumuyiwa, claimed that he met the alleged lover, Olakiitan Balogun in his house, on his bed, last Sunday.
Ajibade is said to have entered the premises around 12:30 am on that particular day, and when he found the deceased on his bed, he began to hit him and smashed his head against the wall.
While speaking with newsmen on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer in Ogun State, Abimbola Oyeyemi, explained that the suspect was later arrested after the matter was reported to the police around 1:14 am on the same day, adding that he has maintained that he killed the man because of the romantic relationship he had with his wife.
The police spokesperson said, “A distress call was received that a man had murdered his wife’s concubine inside his house. On receipt of the distress call, the DPO, CSP Afolabi Kazeem, led his detectives to the scene, where the suspect was promptly arrested.
“On interrogation, the suspect explained that he came into his house around 12.30am on a fateful day and met the deceased right inside the room with his wife.
“This infuriated him and he started beating the man and hit his head against the wall, leading to the death of the victim.”
However, he mentioned that the suspect’s wife stated that she did not have such a relationship with the victim.
She also mentioned that Ajibade had not been to the house in eight months but had told the gateman to monitor her activities within the house and report back to him whenever another man comes into the compound.
While narrating what Ajibade’s wife explained, the police officer said, “She stated further that the victim was a cobbler leaving in the area and on that day, the deceased’s girlfriend came to pay him a visit and since he was not living alone, he decided to bring the lady to a room in the Olumuyiwas’ house due to his closeness to the family.
“But as soon as the gateman saw him, he alerted the husband, who rushed to the house and descended heavily on the deceased without listening to any explanation from her and the victim’s girlfriend.”
