I am a businessman, not a politician – Dangote

Africa’s richest man Aliko Dangote GCON has said he will never abandon his business interests to venture into the murky waters of politics.

The business magnate said this at the Ikenne-Remo, Ogun state home of the Awolowos, where he had gone to commiserate with the family over the loss of the matriarch of the family, Chief (Mrs) Hannah Dideolu Idowu Awolowo, who passed on in September, few months to her 100th birthday.

The family home of the Awolowos has become a Mecca of sort to eminent personalities in the country who have been going there to pay their respects to the “jewel of inestimable value” as Mama HID Awolowo was regarded by her late husband, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

According to Dangote, “I can’t be in politics because they say when you want to clap, you need two hands.

“If all of us in business go into politics then who is going to create the jobs?

“We are in the private sector so we should be creating jobs. Government should be creating good policies and also ensuring that we are not taking advantage of the poor.

“They are doing what they know how to do best and we are also doing what we know how to do best. Each is a master in its own terrain,” Dangote said.

The Chairman of Dangote Group equally called on the government under President Muhammadu Buhari to implement policies that will create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive in Nigeria, while advocating for the diversification of revenue sources for the country instead of over-dependence on oil.
