…. Declares himself Nasarawa’ beacon of peace and hope

Former Minister of Information and governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), in the last governorship election in Nasarawa State, Labaran Maku, on Thursday, said has said there was no basis for any public officer, who served public office on oath to fear probe.

Maku, who also served as supervising Minister of Defence, during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, stated that he was not afraid of probe by the current government.

Maku, who spoke at his residence in Abuja, on Thursday, argued that if any officer was accused of any wrongdoing, it did not mean that he was guilty as his guilt was to be determined by judicial process.

“Maku maintained that he served the country with honour, integrity and sincerity as a citizen aspiring for change.

Any change that Buhari is bringing, if it is not anchored on credible judiciary, then there is a problem.”

Meanwhile, Maku has declared that he will never have gone to tribunal to challenge the outcome of the election if he was not convinced he won the poll.

He said he approached the tribunal after securing overwhelming evidence that he won the election and that the current governor, Tanko Al Makura, should not have been inaugurated for a second term.

He noted that he was even more convinced that he won the poll, going by the proceedings at the tribunal so far, which he described as satisfactory.

The former minister stated that it was unthinkable that the current governor could have won the election after President Muhammadu Buhari, who he said, was more popular than the governor lost the state during the presidential election.

He lamented the situation where insecurity had spread across the state under Al-Makura’s watch, saying that the electorate, who voted for APGA in the poll did so to preserve their lives and property.

Describing himself as a beacon of peace and hope in the state, Maku said that the people of the state wanted peace and development after having experiences where they neither went to their houses nor farms as a result of killings that went on in the state.

The former minister disclosed that he was not expecting declaration that Al-Makura won the election, insisting that there was also no basis for the tribunal to order fresh election.
