People’s Democratic Party’s Gubernatorial candidate for Lagos state, Jimi Agbaje, has claimed that he’s only running for office because a younger person couldn’t be found

The Governorship hopeful was speaking on a TV interview where he said that after the 2015 elections which he lost to Akinwunmi Ambode, he had hoped that he would be able to find someone younger to run in his stead for the 2019 elections, but that in 3 years there was no young person suitable for the job

“Even though I didn’t want to run, I felt that we could get a candidate,” Agbaje said.

“After my running in 2015, I felt if I didn’t win, we could get a younger person to run but in all honesty, I’ve spent the last three years trying to encourage younger indigenous Lagosians to see who would be able to run, who we would be able to back up. But unfortunately, we didn’t get any.”

Earlier, Agbaje also bemoaned the fact that his campaign posters are being taken down, claiming that this was the work of the APC who are afraid that he would win

“Who is afraid of freedom for the people? In a democracy, should the people not choose whom they want? So why the attempts to eradicate all traces of opposition? The ruling party has behaved like thieves, coming in the dead of night to do evil. It is even more worrisome when you consider that a government agency is being used to intimidate and drown out the opposition.” Agbaje said

His campaign boards were allegedly taken down by LASAA officials and Agbaje took a swipe at the body claiming that they would come out to deny

“In a few of days, LASAA will come out to say: The men were not their employees, but we know they are because one of them had his ID card on him. Or they will say: JK’s campaign did not ask permission before placing boards, but the law is clear on exemptions for political periods.”
