A 47-year-old woman, Joy Egeonu, who accused her husband’s 11-year-old nephew of stealing her N6,500 and allegedly beat him to death last Saturday has said that it was still difficult for her to understand what happened.

The woman, a resident of Ope-Ilu, Ogun State, who is currently in police net, affirmed that she only caned the boy, saying that she was surprised that such could lead to his death.

Recall that Egeonu was reported to have hurriedly buried the primary three pupil, Chibuike, in the Ifo area of the state after she discovered that he had died.

The mother of the deceased, Ijeoma, who lived in another area, reported the case to the Agbado Police Division, leading to the suspect’s arrest.

Speaking in an interview, the suspect, a mother of three, disclosed that Chibuike and his younger sister had been living with her for seven years since their parents separated.

She said Chibuike, his sister and her children were meant to attend a church service with her that Saturday afternoon, but he later decided to stay behind.

She added that she asked the boy to stay indoors when she was leaving for church with other children.

The native of Idato also noted that the boy was not at home and the money she kept in the house had vanished when they returned from church around 9pm.
