I Wish You Well – Buhari to Defected APC Lawmakers

Reacting to the Political drama and string of defections that hit his party the APC hard yesterday, President Buhari says he wishes the defectors all the best in their future endeveours.

Reacting through a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, President Buhari said he was committed to the values of democracy as well as the freedom of choice.

President Buhari also said he was willing to work with the National Assembly irrespective of the party affiliations of its members for the general good of the country.

According to President Buhari, “As the saying goes, all politics is local. We understand that some of the distinguished and honourable lawmakers have issues with their home states, especially on zoning which bars some of them from seeking another term in their constituencies,”

 

Speaking on the defections the President explained that none of the defected lawmakers had grievances against him as a person or his government; he further revealed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) had done its best to stop the defections

He also commended the leadership of the party for relentlessly working for the party’s unity as well as ensuring success in the 2019 elections while assuring the remaining members of the APC of his total support.

President Buhari encouraged the remaining members not to allow the defections discourage hem but they should rather see it as a normal occurrence in election seasons. He also expressed utmost confidence that the party would survive this present onslaught.

Tuesday witnesses a series of Political drama in the country, starting with the Police invitation of the Senate President Monday night and the subsequent invasion of his residence as well as that of the deputy Senate President.

The day came to a climax when the Senate President managed to make it to the Senate to preside over a plenary that witnessed the defection of 15 APC senators.

In the lower house, the member complimented their senate counterparts as 37 lawmakers also defected from the ruling party.

President Buhari has declared his intention to run for the 2019 elections.
