I Won’t Unduly Influence My Son’s Football Career – Patrick Osimhen

Mr. Patrick Osimhen, the father of U-17 World Cup goal scoring record holder, Victor Osimhen, has promised to allow his son follow his heart when the time comes to choose a club.

After Victor Osimhen stole the show at the recently-concluded FIFA U-17 World Cup Chile 2015, scoring a record 10 goals and winning the Adidas Golden Shoe and Silver Ball, many top-level European clubs are expected to seek his signature in the nearest future.

But in an interview with Juliet Mafua of Television Continental, Lagos, Osimhen said only God could determine what anyone would become in life.

He said he would not unduly influence his son’s choice of club, but will only offer advice.

The older Osimhen described his son as a humble young man who does not like to get into trouble.

He said he initially wanted his son to become a lawyer, but could not do anything to prevent him from playing football, seeing that was where he had interest.

Furthermore, he thanked God for using his son to bring the family’s name to limelight.
