Mohammed Adamu, Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has issued a fresh directive regarding the movement of essential workers amid COVID-19 Pandemic

Following the extension of the gradual ease of lockdown by two weeks, essential workers such as health care workers and Journalists were no longer exempted from the curfew in Lagos and FCT.

Many Health care workers expressed concerns about the inability to go about their sworn duties after security operatives blocked them at various checkpoints at the start of the 8pm curfew.

However, IGP has rescinded is decision to include essential workers in the 8pm curfew. Henceforth, essential workers are free to go about their duties while carrying a valid means of identification.

This was contained in a tweet by the verified Twitter accounts of the IGP and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

The tweet reads:

“Zonal Assistant Inspectors General of Police and Commands Commissioners of Police to give effect to these exemptions whilst enforcing the restriction orders,” the IGP said.

“All essential workers including Medical Personnel, Firefighters, Ambulance Services, Journalists, etc are exempted from the restriction of movement associated with both the partial lockdown and the national curfew across the Federation.” NPF tweeted.
