Iker Casillas Makes Champions League History

Spanish goalkeeper Iker Casillas made Champions League history last night when he played for Porto against Schalke last night.

His game against the  German team was his 20th consecutive Champions League campaign surpassing Ryan Giggs who played in 19 Champions League with Manchester United.

The World Cup winner spent over a decade with Real Madrid playing in 16 Champions League tournaments with the Spanish giants and is now playing in his 4th with Porto.

Casillas won the competition with Madrid in 1999–00, 2001–02 and most recently in 2013–14

Porto was able to get a result against Schalke with the game ending 1-1 with a penalty from Monteiro bringing the scores level after Breel Embolo put Schalke ahead.

Casillas’ Champions League story with Porto hasn’t been easy, getting out of the group stage on 2 occasions but ultimately getting knocked out in the round of 16 both times.

In the league, though things have been much better as the Spanish shot stopper won it with Porto last year.

The other teams in Porto’s group are Galatasaray and Lokomotiv Moscow.

Galatasaray made a strong start to the campaign, winning against Lokomotiv Moscow, 3 goals to nil. Porto will now face Galatasaray in their next game and will be hoping to build on their opening day result.
