Imo state governor, Hope Uzodinma, has approved the payment of N30,000 minimum wage for workers in the state.

Recall that the Supreme Court nullified the election of Emeka Ihedioha and declared Uzodinma as authentic governor of the state.

Oguwike Nwachuku, the chief press secretary and media adviser to Governor Uzodinma, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, February 6. He explained that civil servants captured were those on the grade level 1 step 1.

Nwachuku said: “Consequential adjustments on other levels will be implemented as soon as the ongoing government-labour negotiations are concluded.

“It would be recalled that at a recent meeting Governor Uzodinma had with labour leaders in the state, he promised that he will pay the N30,000 minimum wage if all the negotiations with them are concluded.”

Earlier, The Herald reported that Uzodinma on Tuesday, January 21, during his first broadcast to the people of the state vowed to conduct a fresh local government election.

Uzodinma made the vow when the chairmen of the traditional rulers from the 27 local government areas of the state led by the council chairman of traditional rulers, Eze Agunwa Ohiri, paid him a courtesy call.

He reminded the monarchs of their roles in ensuring peace and tranquility. The governor assured them that his policies would meet the yearnings and aspirations of the people of the state.

Earlier, The Herald reported that governorship candidate of the AA in the state, Uche Nwosu, debunked rumours that he planned to challenge the Supreme Court judgment which declared Hope Uzodinma as governor.

Nwosu, who addressed reporters after a meeting with leaders of the Rescue Mission Structures, council and ward chairmen, as well as state executives of the APC, said he would not fight the judgment but support Uzodinma wholeheartedly.

He said: “I want to state categorically that the party, including the structures in the state, have accepted the judgment which affirmed Hope Uzodinma as the governor of our state.

“We are not in any way fighting that judgment that has given our party the victory due it; but we shall give our unalloyed support to the new government.

“We are elated that the injustice we faced at the tribunal and Appeal Court has become a thing of the past, and so we are using this avenue to praise the judiciary for still remaining the last resort of the hopeless.”
