INEC Clarifies Anambra CVR Is Strictly for Governorship Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has stated that the upcoming Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in Anambra State is exclusively for the November 8 governorship election.
Addressing journalists in Awka on Thursday, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Anambra, Elizabeth Agwu, made the clarification, noting that the CVR is not intended for any Senate or House of Assembly bye-elections.
According to Agwu, the CVR exercise will run from July 8 to July 17 across designated INEC offices in the state. The registration will take place daily between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., including Saturdays, but excluding Mondays.
“Fresh registration must be done physically at INEC offices. However, revalidation or corrections of biodata can be done online. INEC will not register anyone in absentia,” Agwu emphasized.
She also noted that the registration portal will automatically close by 3:00 p.m. daily, warning that no registration will be accepted outside the approved hours.
The REC cautioned eligible voters not to pay anyone for registration, describing any attempt to charge for the service as illegal. She urged all eligible residents to seize the opportunity to register or update their voter information to ensure they can participate in the crucial governorship poll.
“This is your chance to take part in shaping the leadership of Anambra State. Come out and register. Your vote is your voice,” she said.
