The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday issued a decree that the cloning and selling of Permanent Voter Cards online will not be taken lightly.

The commission in a statement said, “it takes the reports seriously and will engage the government and security agencies as well as promoters of the platform in order to get to the root of it and take all necessary action to bring down the advertisement forthwith.”

Oluwole Osaze Uzzi, the Director, of Voter Education and Publicity, who signed the statement added that the electoral commission had anticipated this scenario and had put in place security measures to ensure that only PVCs issued by the commission could be used during elections.

A Twitter user, SAGE @olufisiayomi had on Sunday tweeted about the sale of Nigeria’s PVC on an e-Commerce site, Alibaba and it had gone viral, which prompted the statement by the INEC.

Later checks reveal that the advert for the cards has been removed.
