The number of Political Parties in Nigeria has been bumped up to 91 as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the registration of 23 new political parties.
Some of the newly registered parties include: The Advanced Alliance Party, Liberation Movement, Save Nigeria Congress, United Patriots, Youth Party, We The People Nigeria, amongst others.
INEC said it would issue Certificates of Registration to the newly registered parties on the 16th of August at the INEC headquarters, Abuja.
The electoral umpire also announced the extension of the Continuous Voters Registration exercise by another two weeks.
INEC had fixed the deadline for August 17, 2018 but decided to extend it due to appeals by the general public for more time.
INEC said it had set the initial date in order to have enough time to prepare for the 2019 General elections.

INEC National Commissioner and Member, Voter Education and Publicity Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna revealed that the Commission had registered an additional 12, 139,061 new voters as at August 11 and further announced that the exercise will continue in all the designated registration centres until August 31.
He said registration will take place every day between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm except on public holidays.
