The Independent National Electoral Commission has announced the postponement of the Presidential and National Assembly elections, billed to hold today, February 16.

The electoral umpire resheduled the election to Saturday, 23rd February, 2019.

According to the INEC Chairman, Mahmoud Yakubu, the resolution of the meeting of the National Commissioners was that “ holding the election as scheduled is no longer feasible.” and in view of this, the commission decided to move the election date by a week. He added that the decision will enable INEC to address identified challenges ahead of the new dates.

The postponement will also affect the Governorship and State Assembly elections earlier scheduled for 2th March, which will now hold on 9th March, 2019.

Yakubu added that the Commission will meet with stakeholders by 2pm on Saturday to intimate them on the development.
