The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday called for closer partnership with the Police command in Enugu State to ensure smooth operation of the commission in the state.

The new INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Mr Emeka Ononamadu, made the call when he led management staff of the commission on a courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Danmallam Mohammed.

Ononamadu said that the Police and INEC had been partners in progress for the survival of democracy.

He said he was at the command to register his presence and to cement the existing relationship between INEC and the police command.

The state INEC boss lauded the efforts of the command in making the state peaceful.

He said the command, in partnership with the government and people of the state, had succeeded in making Enugu State one of the peaceful states to dwell in.

Responding, Mohammed noted that INEC had contributed a lot in the democratization process of the country.

He said the police had been partnering with the commission.

He, therefore, pledged the support of the command to the commission and the resident electoral commissioner any time they called on them for assistance. (NAN)
