This is coming after the Supreme court asked INEC to withdraw the certificate of return that was issued to David Lyon, governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) after his running mate was found guilty of certificate forgery submitted to aid his qualification during screening.

Hence, this caused Justice Mary Odili who led a 5-man panel to nullify Lyon’s election victory.

The presiding Justice asked INEC to declare the candidate with the second-highest votes Winner of the Bayelsa gubernatorial poll.

Diri Douye who came second in the last conducted guber poll has been declared Winner of the election. He is now officially recognized as the Governor-elect of Bayelsa state.
